MailControl with your website elsewhere

When this setup fits

Keep the site where it is, but bring mail authentication under My NovaMX: aggregate DMARC reports, safer SPF limits, and BIMI records when you are ready. This is common when web hosting and registrar already work, and only mail security needs a dedicated European path.

What stays where

Your A/AAAA and website TLS stay at the current host. MailControl does not move the site. You add TXT (and related) records for verification, SPF, DMARC, and optional BIMI or MTA-STS where your nameservers live. If NovaMX also hosts mail later, MX changes are separate and optional.

Domain verification first

Before MailControl can manage a domain you keep elsewhere, NovaMX asks you to publish a short-lived _novamx-verify TXT record. That proves you control DNS. After verification succeeds, the portal shows the exact mail-security records to add. Registering or transferring the domain to NovaMX also completes ownership as part of onboarding.

Recommended order

1. Create a My NovaMX account and add the domain you want to protect.
2. Add the domain and publish the _novamx-verify TXT at your current DNS host with the exact value from the portal.
3. Confirm verification, then publish SPF, DMARC (start at p=none with rua), and later BIMI or MTA-STS records as MailControl instructs.
4. Review reports for a few weeks before tightening DMARC. Leave website DNS unchanged unless you choose to move hosting later.

DNS stays with your current host

You do not need NovaMX nameservers for MailControl alone. Copy each record type, name and value from My NovaMX into the DNS UI you already use. Propagation can take minutes to a few hours. Use the free mail check on our tools page to confirm what the public internet sees.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to move my website to NovaMX?

No. MailControl works after domain verification while the site stays on another host. Only the DNS records for mail authentication need to be published where you already manage DNS.

Must I change nameservers?

Not for MailControl alone. Keep your current nameservers and add the TXT (and related) records the portal lists. Moving DNS or the registrar to NovaMX is optional if you later want one place for domain and DNS.

What about BIMI and SPF flattening?
