Terms explained

Short definitions for technical terms used on novamx.eu and in My NovaMX.

What is DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) is the address book of the internet. It tells browsers and mail servers where your website and email live. NovaMX shows the exact DNS records to add or change when you manage a domain.

What is a nameserver?

Nameservers tell the internet which DNS service is authoritative for your domain. When you point nameservers to NovaMX, you manage DNS records, subdomains and DNSSEC from My NovaMX.

What is a TLD?

A TLD (top-level domain) is the ending of a domain name. Registration and renewal prices depend on the TLD you choose.

What is SPF?

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a DNS record that lists which mail servers may send email for your domain. Receiving servers check it to reject mail from forged senders.

What is SPF flattening?

When you use many email services, an SPF record can grow too large for DNS limits. SPF flattening keeps one record that NovaMX updates for you, so all allowed senders stay listed without you editing DNS by hand.

What is DKIM?

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a digital signature to outgoing mail. Receivers verify it using a DNS record to confirm the message was not altered and came from an approved sender.

What is DMARC?

DMARC tells receiving servers what to do when SPF or DKIM checks fail, and sends you reports about mail sent using your domain. It helps stop phishing and improves deliverability for legitimate mail.

What is DNSSEC?

DNSSEC adds cryptographic signatures to DNS so browsers and mail servers can detect forged or tampered records. NovaMX can enable signing and publish DS records when NovaMX DNS is active.

What is Domain Only?

Domain Only is NovaMX's registrar-only package: no monthly hosting fee. You pay per domain when you register or renew. You can add hosting, mail or security later on the same account.
